The present era of civilization is undergoing a momentous change—a change which is going to define the dynamic way future humans are expected to live their lives. The interweaving of virtual life with actual life and the superfast interaction between those are so compelling and mind-boggling that it is hard to separate one’s actual and virtual existences. One’s presence on social networking platforms of diverse types and responses thereon affects one’s actual life overwhelmingly. Barcode, QR code, RFID, IOTs, etc are already impacting our lives. Data mining, big data and cloud computing are similarly in vogue and pervasive use. Smart-machines, smart-networks, smartphones, smart-offices, smart-homes, smart-cars, smart-roads and smart what-nots are eventually going to further complicate human life. Automation coupled with machine learning, hence, is going to affect the normal healthy life of mankind immensely. Thus, artificial intelligence and evolution of smart gadgets with ubiquitous internet connectivity are the features that are, no doubt, going to make life smarter but, at the same time, will make us increasingly vulnerable to a number of soft/actual threats. Security and privacy issues are not only today’s concerns but are also going to be the key issues of discussion and deliberation throughout the epoch that awaits us. The resolution of these issues shall continue to preoccupy us in the foreseeable future. This demand of today’s is going to exponentially intensify in the near future with far more complex design requirements than what the engineering community has at hand today. Accordingly, the design of electronic circuits and systems and the design of communication engineering strategies and protocols along with the adaptive computational and information technological support are going to be the challenging demand of the times ahead. Multiple hiring of a single professional for different time slots is going to be the new norm in the complex scenario of the future job market. One has to, therefore, be capable of efficiently handling jobs of diverse types to be able to earn one’s bread and survive. With the above in mind, a number of new essential technological supports need to be thought about carefully to ensure that human life remains connected to nature for nature to thrive around us providing fertile ground for a holistic coexistence. I hope that we at AIACTR shall strive to develop an institution of higher education and research where our philosophical and compassionate approach translates into high grade of ethical practices that are reflected in our educational and research endeavours and that also ensures the nurturing of an enduring love and care for nature and everything around us. That would certainly require probing of new knowledge and skill set beyond the frames of syllabus. I extend my whole hearted support in this to one and all at AIACTR.
